Yosemite era para mim, juntamente com o Grand Canyon, o ponto alto nesta viagem. Tínhamos hotel marcado perto do Valley, tínhamos planos, dias cheios de caminhadas pela frente. E na verdade nada foi como planeado, não andei por onde queria andar e não vi o que queria ver. É necessariamente uma coisa negativa quando os nossos planos saem completamente furados? Talvez não, muitas vezes somos surpreendidos e esta foi uma dessas vezes.
No dia em que chegámos a Yosemite, o acesso ao Valley estava fechado devido as chuvadas fortes e ia continuar fechado nos dias em que íamos estar por Yosemite. Isto significava duas coisas: não conseguíamos ir para o hotel e todos os nossos planos não seriam possíveis de realizar. Eram 22h, a cidade mais próxima ficava a 1 hora e tal das barreiras que fechavam o acesso ao Valley. Chovia a potes e não tínhamos sequer sinal para conseguir ligar ao nosso hotel. Felizmente Yosemite está equipado com telefones e conseguimos contactá-los. Informaram-nos que não seria possível aceder ao Valley até domingo e que estavam a evacuar a zona: o rio tinha transbordado. Sem saber muito bem o que fazer, voltámos para trás e rezámos para que o hotel dentro do parque não fosse absurdamente caro e tivesse um quarto para quatro pessoas. O hotel não só tinha um quarto para nós, como era mais barato e lindíssimo! As pessoas eram super simpáticas e ajudaram-nos com tudo. Explicámos o que queríamos fazer, que queríamos caminhar, ver natureza, e ver as vistas lá de cima. Aconselharam-nos umas cascatas ali perto - Chilnualna Falls - e disseram-nos que a maioria das pessoas ficavam desiludidas porque a água nunca corria muito forte, mas que como tinha havido tanta chuva, nós teríamos a sorte de as apanhar no seu ponto mais bonito. E foi mesmo. A força da água era assustadora, o barulho era maravilhoso e nem sequer fazia calor. Fiquei triste por não ver o Valley, mas fiquei feliz por ter tido a oportunidade de presenciar e conhecer esta natureza maravilhosa. Yosemite é um parque para o qual quero voltar. Uma semana, talvez. Caminhar o mais possível. Ver cada canto, cada árvore, cada animal. É lindo, é tão lindo.
Para os mais curiosos, ficámos no Big Trees Lodge e aconselho vivamente. Escolhemos quartos sem casa de banho, visto que eram mais baratos e aconselho qualquer pessoa a fazer isso. As casas de banho são incrivelmente limpas.
Yosemite was for me, together with the Grand Canyon, the highlight of this trip. We had a hotel booked near the Valley, we had plans, days full of hiking ahead. And actually nothing was as planned, I did not walk where I wanted to walk and did not see what I wanted to see. Is it necessarily a negative thing when our plans do not go as planned? Maybe not, we are often surprised and this was one of those times.
The day we arrived in Yosemite, the access to the Valley was closed due to heavy rain and would remain closed during the days when we were staying in Yosemite. This meant two things: we could not go to the hotel and all our plans would not be possible to realize. It was 10 PM, the nearest town was more than 1 hour away from the barriers that closed the access to the Valley. It rained a lot and we did not even have a signal to be able to call our hotel. Fortunately Yosemite is equipped with telephones and we were able to contact them. They informed us that it would not be possible to access the Valley until Sunday and that they were evacuating the zone: the river had transshipped. Not knowing very well what to do, we went back and prayed that the hotel inside the park was not absurdly expensive and had a room for four people. The hotel not only had a room for us, but it was cheaper and beautiful! The people were super friendly and they helped us with everything. We explained what we wanted to do, that we wanted to hike, see nature, and see the sights from up there. They advised us of waterfalls nearby - Chilnualna Falls - and they told us that most people were disappointed because the water never ran very strong, but since there had been so much rain, we would be lucky enough to catch them at their most beautiful point. And it was. The force of the water was frightening, the noise was wonderful and it was not even too warm. I was sad not to see the Valley, but I was glad to have had the opportunity to witness and experience this wonderful nature. Yosemite is a park I want to go back to. A week, maybe. Walk as much as possible. See every corner, every tree, every animal. It's beautiful, it's so beautiful.
For the more curious, we stayed at the Big Trees Lodge and I strongly recommend it. We chose rooms without bathroom, since they were cheaper and I advise everyone to do that. The bathrooms are incredibly clean.
